Our Brain is not Programmed for the Happiness.....

Our Brain is not Programmed for Happiness.....

Ever wondered why your mind keeps dwindling back to

the ideas of negativity, scarcity, and criticism instead of

 focusing on positivity.

------------------------------------------

GRATITUDE?

Feeling of Gratitude

We have read and heard a thousand times that heeding to the ideas of a prosperous life is the first step towards actually building one. We know that statistically, at any given point in time, we have more to be grateful for than to be ungrateful about. We know we should focus on abundance but no matter how hard we try, somehow somewhere a switch goes off and our brain returns to its old negative thinking habits.

------------------------------------------

YOU KNOW WHY?

It's because focusing on happiness is not our brain's default mechanism. It might sound counterintuitive but our brain is not designed to make us happy. Rather, it has only one agenda in mind.

------------------------------------------

SURVIVAL

<Fact of Living>

No matter how comforting your life might be right now, your mind will probably still find a way to make it miserable. Because it is programmed to think that way. It is designed to seek out the negative. It is wired to look out for anything and everything that can potentially harm you.
------------------------------------------

Mind Threat...

Right from the depleting resources of the world or destructive forces of nature to smaller things like getting hurt in a relationship or being cheated out of a business partnership. Our brain has evolved to protect us from whatever's out there to hurt us. And to do that effectively, it has to constantly be on the lookout for all that the mind perceives to be a threat.

------------------------------------------

Centuries of Evolution...

You might be wondering why the brain gives so much importance to survival. The answer is rather simple and lies in the word 'evolved'. If you look at human history, our species, for the majority of its existence, has been struggling for survival. Our shift from being the submissive species to being the dominant ones has only been a recent accomplishment. What precedes is hundreds of centuries of struggle.

------------------------------------------

Modern Struggles...

Ancient humans used to struggle for hunger, safety, and survival. Modern humans, having overcome that barrier, struggle with mental peace, happiness, and fulfilment. Our struggles have changed. But our DNAs haven't. Our problems have changed. But to our brain, the solution hasn't. It still does what it thinks is the best for us. It is still functioning 24x7 to ensure our survival, but not our contentment. And when left unchecked, the mind returns to its default settings. It keeps trafficking in the negative, worrisome, and fearful all day and night.

------------------------------------------
How do we go about training the mind to look beyond the negative? I don't know. But being aware of how the brain operates sure seems like a good starting point,

DOESN'T IT?

Thank you for giving your precious time here...
